We are an Aikido World Alliance Dojo

Our dojo is a member of the Aikido World Alliance under the direction of Andy Sato Sensei and recognized by Aikido World Headquarters in Japan.

Andrew M. Sato, Nanadan (7th dan) Aikikai, is a full time Aikido instructor. After graduating from Northeastern Illinois University, Sato Sensei traveled to Japan. Upon his return, he was introduced to Fumio Toyoda Shihan. He trained with Toyoda Shihan from 1977 until Shihan’s death in 2001. Sato Sensei began his training as a member of the Ki Aikido Society, then with the Aikido Association of America and Aikido Association International. From 2002 until the end of 2004 Sato Sensei served as the chief instructor of both the AAA and AAI. During his tenure as these organizations’ chief instructor, he taught in both the USA and Europe. At the end of 2004 he parted ties with the AAA and AAI, and organized the Aikido World Alliance with the goal of furthering student understanding of the art of Aikido through standardized instruction and intensive training. Sato Sensei is based in Chicago, IL and he can be found most days at Kiku Matsu Dojo, unless he is traveling to instruct Aikido seminars.
